The Heartleaf goldeneye (Viguiera cordifolia) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the south-western United States; Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, and Mexico. This herb grows on dry slopes and canyons, mostly pine forests and limestone soils, and it can reach 50-100 cm in height. The leaves are opposite or alternate, ovate to deltate-ovate or lance-ovate with serrate or serrulate margins. The yellow flower-heads bloom from July to September. The flower-head consists of 6-8 ray florets and up to 40 disc florets.
