南アフリカやアジアが原産です。水面を浮遊する浮遊植物で、直径は３０センチほどになります。この植物は、成熟した葉の上に、小さな不定芽（新しい苗）をつくって繁殖します。 
ホウライシダ科ミズワラビ属の常緑シダ植物で、学名は Ceratopteris pterodoides。英名は Water fan。 
The water fan (Ceratopteris pterodoides) belongs to the Parkeriaceae family. It is an evergreen fern that is native to South America and Asia. This fern is a floating plant floating on the water surface, and grow up to about 30 cm in diameter. This plant propagates by making small adventitious buds ("new" plants) on the mature leaves.
