The Water fan (Ceratopteris pteridoides) belongs to the family Parkeriaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is distributed in the tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, India, central and eastern China, and Vietnam. It is a floating plant that grows on the surface of the water and can reach a diameter of around 30 cm. This plant reproduces by producing small adventitious buds (new seedlings) on mature leaves. This species is used in folk medicine, for environmental purposes, and as food. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "美洲水蕨", and in Chinese, it is called "粗梗水蕨" (cu geng shui jue).
