南アフリカのケープ地方に分布しています。小雨地帯の岩の多い渓谷に生え、高さは２０〜４０メートルになります。樹皮は薄い繊維状で、赤灰色をしています。若い葉は針状ですが、成長すると十字状になります。球果は２センチほどの球形で、暗褐色です。

ヒノキ科ウィドリングトニア属の常緑高木で、学名は Widdringtonia schwarzii。英名は Willowmore cedar、Baviaanskloof-ceder。

The Willowmore cedar (Widdringtonia schwarzii) belongs to Cupressaceae (the Cypress family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is distributed in the Cape region of South Africa. It grows in rocky valleys in light rainfall areas and grows 20 to 40 m. The bark is thin and fibrous with a red-gray color. The young leaves are needle-like, but become cross-shaped as they grow. The cones are 2 cm long, spherical, and dark brown.
