ヨーロッパの西部に分布しています。乾燥した林内や草地、海岸砂丘などに生え、高さは３０〜５０センチになります。全体に柔らかな毛に被われています。葉は卵形で、浮き出た葉脈があります。７月から９月ごろ、黄緑色の花を咲かせます。「ホップ」に似た味と香りがあり、ビールの香り付けに使われることもあります。

The wood sage (Teucrium scorodonia) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is native to western Europe. This herb grows in dry woodlands, grasslands or dunes and can reach 30-50 cm in height. The plant is covered with soft hairs. The leaves are ovate with standing out veins. The yellowish-green flowers appear from July to September. The plant resembles hops in taste and flavour and is used for flavouring beer in some areas.
