南アメリカのブラジルが原産です。池沼や湿地に生え、高さは１５〜２０センチになります。葉は円形から楕円形で対生し、黄緑色をしています。茎や葉の裏面の葉脈上に軟毛が生えるのが特徴です。夏から秋にかけて、小さな青紫色の花を咲かせます。

The Hairy waterhyssop (Bacopa lanigera) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to Brazil in South America. It grows in ponds and wetlands and is 15 to 20 cm tall. The leaves are round to elliptic, opposite, and yellow-green in color. It is characterized by soft hairs on the stem and on the veins of the underside of the leaves. Small blue-purple flowers bloom from summer to fall.
