The Yellow pitaya (Hylocereus megalanthus) belongs to Cactaceae (Cactus family). It is a columnar cactus that is distributed from Nicaragua in Central America to Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru in South America. It grows in forests along rivers in humid tropical biomes, either epiphytic or terrestrial. The stems are thin with three ribs, creeping along the ground or climbing other plants. Aerial roots emerge from the stems. The flowers are large, white, fragrant, and bloom at night. The fruit is egg-shaped with spines on the surface, turns yellow when ripe, and is edible. It is also known by the common name "Yellow dragon fruit".
