わが国の本州、東北地方に分布しています。「みやまくわがた」の一品種です。高山の砂礫地に生え、高さは１０〜２５センチになります。葉は長楕円形で対生し、縁には重鋸歯があります。葉の表面にはわずかに毛が生えます。６月中旬から７月ごろ、淡い青紫色から紅紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠は４個の裂片に分かれ重なります。

ゴマノハグサ科ルリトラノオ属の多年草で、学名は Pseudolysimachion schmidtianum ssp. senanense f. bandaianum。英名はありません。

"Bandai-kuwagata" (Pseudolysimachion schmidtianum ssp. senanense f. bandaianum) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Tohoku district of Honshu. It is a form of "Miyama-kuwagata". This herb grows in alpine screes and can reach 10-25 cm in height. The leaves are oblong and arranged in opposite with double-serrated margins. The sparse hairs are borne on adverse sides. The pale bluish-purple to magenta flowers bloom in the middle of June through July. The corolla is devided into four lobes which overlap each other.
