オーストラリア南東部、ニューサウスウェールズ州の東部に分布しています。明るい林内や荒れ地に生え、高さは３〜４．５メートルになります。葉は「エリカ」似た線形で、長さは１５ミリほどです。秋から冬にかけて、長さ５０〜６０センチの円筒形の花序をだし、オレンジ色の花を咲かせます。花披がかぎ爪状をしたバンクシアの一種です。花後、花序は松ぼっくり状になり、種子は山火事が起こるまでこのなかに留まります。

ヤマモガシ科バンクシア属の常緑低木で、学名は Banksia ericifolia。英名は Heath-leaved banksia。

The heath-leaved banksia (Banksia ericifolia) belongs to the Proteaceae family. It is a small evergreen tree that is native to southeastern Australia; eastern New South Wales. This tree grows in open wood and barrens, and can reach 3-4.5 m in height. The leaves are linear, about 15 mm long and resembles to Heath. The orange flowers come in the terminal cylindrical long spikes, 50-60 cm long from fall to winter. The perianthes are hooked. Following flowering, the inflorescence turn to pinecone-like and the seeds remain until forest fire.
