北アメリカのカナダからアメリカ北部に分布しています。寒さに強く、高さは１０〜２５メートルになります。樹皮は灰褐色から黒褐色で、不整に枝が伸びます。葉は針形で捩れ、２個ずつつきます。長さ３〜５センチの球果をつけます。公園樹や街路樹に植栽され、材は建築や建具などに利用されます。

The Banksian pine (Pinus banksiana) belongs to Pinaceae (the Pine family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is distributed in North America from Canada to the northern United States. It is cold hardy and grows 10 to 25 m tall. The bark is grayish brown to blackish brown and the branches grow irregularly. The leaves are needle-like and twisted, and grow in bunches of two. It bears 3-5 cm long cones. It is planted in parks and along roadsides, and its wood is used for construction and fixtures.
