中国の南部からビルマ、インドに分布しています。高さは１．２～１．８メートルになり、楕円形から狭卵形の葉が対生します。ほとんど一年を通して、葉腋から穂状花序をだし、淡い青紫色の漏斗形の花を咲かせます。花色が白色やピンク、オレンジ色などの園芸品種があります。果実は、長さ１．５センチほどになる楕円形の蒴果です。中国語では「假杜鵑（jia du juan）」と呼ばれます。 |

キツネノマゴ科バルレリア属の常緑小低木で、学名は Barleria cristata。英名は Philippine violet。 |

The Philippine violet (Barleria cristata) belongs to Acanthaceae (the Ruellia family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native from Southern China to Burma and India. This shrub can reach 1.2-1.8 m in height. The leaves are elliptic to narrowly ovate, and arranged in opposite. The spikes are borne throughout most of the year, and bloom funnel-shaped, pale bluish flowers. There are white, pink or orange-colored cultivars. The fruits are elliptic capsules about 1.5 cm long. In Chinese, it is called "假杜鵑" (jia du juan). |
