Beargrass (Beaucarnea bigelovii) belongs to the family Agavaceae (the Agave family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. This herb grows in the driest desert areas and at elevations up to 1,500 m, and it can reach about 4 m in height. The stem may exceed 2 m in height, part of which may be underground. The leaves are stiff, shreddy, and arranged in rosettes. The tiny white flowers bloom in the long treelike inflorescence.
