ヨーロッパの大部分から、東のコーカサス地方それに西アジアに分布しています。湿り気のある落葉樹林や雑木林、渓谷などに生え、高さは３０センチほどになります。茎は３稜形で、葉は卵状楕円形です。５月から６月ごろ、散形花序に白色の花を咲かせます。花は、落葉樹の葉の展開前に現れます。またスイスやドイツなどでは「ベアラオホ（Bärlauch）」と呼ばれ、サラダや香辛料、茹で野菜として利用されます。名前は、冬眠から覚めたクマが、最初にこれを食べて体力を回復することから。

ユリ科ネギ属の多年草で、学名は Allium ursinum。英名は Bear's garlic、Ramsons、Wild garlic。

The bear's garlic (Allium ursinum) belongs to Liliacea (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to much of Eorope, east to the Caucasus and West Asia. This herb gorws in moist decidous forests, copses or valleys and can reach about 30 cm in height. The stem is triangular in shape and the leaves are ovate elliptic. The white flowers bloom in the umbels from May to June. They appear before deciduous trees leaf. It is also called "Bärlauch" in Swiss and German, and the leaves are used as salad, spice or boiled as a vegetable.
