The banyan tree (Ficus benghalensis) belongs to Moraceae (the Mulberry family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is distributed widely to India and South-east Asia. The seeds sprout out on other trees and bear many hanging aerial roots on them. This tree grows fast and can reach about 30 m in height and about 100 m width. The leaves are ovate with obtuce tips. The fruits are globose utricles and ripen into red-orange. Banyan tree is adored as a sacred tree for longevity and fertility, and it usually plants in pairs with Bo tree (Ficus religiosa) in India.
