The Fireweed (Crassocephalum crepidioides) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an annual herb that is native to Africa, It was introduced into Japan shortly after the Second World War and spreaded with a lighting speed to everywhere. The plant is dark green, soft and edible, and it has Chop-suey greens-like scent. The Japanese name is derived from the rag-like bursting pappi.
