中国の南部からマレーシアに分布しています。根茎は肥大し、高さは３０センチほどになります。葉はほとんど円に近い腎円形で、紫褐色の十字形の斑があります。中国名では「鉄甲秋海棠」または「鉄十字秋海棠」と呼ばれます。

シュウカイドウ科シュウカイドウ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Begonia massoniana。英名はありません。

The Begonia massoniana belongs to Begoniaceae (the Begonia family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from southern China to Malaysia. The rhizome is enlarged and grows to a height of about 30 cm. The leaves are almost circular, kidney-shaped, with purple-brown cross-shaped spots. It is called "鉄甲秋海棠" (tie jia qiu hai tang) in Chinese name.
