The Begonia pearcei belongs to Begoniaceae (the Begonia family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to Bolivia in northern South America. The stems are long and drooping. The leaves are heart-shaped, unopposed, dark green on the surface with conspicuous light green veins, and the underside is a dull reddish brown. From June to September, it produces yellow flowers in cymes with long flower stalks. It is the yellow mother of bulbous begonias, of which many garden varieties have been produced.
