メキシコあるいはブラジルが原産です。全体が細かい毛に被われ、高さは２０センチほどでよく分枝します。葉は光沢のない緑色で、裏面は紅紫色を帯び、縁は波打ちます。多花性で、温度さえあれば一年中、淡いピンク色の花を咲かせます。センパフローレンス種の交配親としても知られています。和名では「ひめベゴニア（姫ベゴニア）」と呼ばれます。

シュウカイドウ科シュウカイドウ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Begonia schmidtiana。英名はありません。

The Begonia schmidtiana belongs to Begoniaceae (the Begonia family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to Mexico and Brazil. The entire plant is covered with fine hairs and is about 20 cm tall and well branched. The leaves are a shiny green color with a reddish-purple underside and wavy edges. It is a polyphyllous plant that produces pale pink flowers all year round as long as the temperature is right. It is also known as a hybrid parent of the "Perpetual begonia" (Begonia semperflorens). It is called "Hime-begonia" (princess begonia) in Japanese.
