The Begonia silletensis belongs to Begoniaceae (the Begonia family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed in Yunnan Province of China, northeastern India, and the northern Indochina Peninsula. It grows in shady forests in swampy areas at elevations of 600 to 800 m and grows to a height of 30 cm. It is a rhizomatous begonia. It has large, irregularly ovate or broadly ovate leaves, and around March it produces a profusion of small, pink-colored flowers. The Chinese name for this plant is "厚壁秋海棠" (hou bi qiu haitang).
