西アフリカから中央アフリカが原産です。木本または半木本の蔓性植物で３〜４メートルほど伸び、他の植物に巻きついて伸びます。葉は卵形で対生します。冬に集散花序をだし、鮮朱赤色の花を咲かせます。花後、萼が淡紫色に色づきます。

クマツヅラ科クサギ属の常緑低木で、学名は Clerodendrum splendens。英名は Flaming glorybower。

The Flaming glorybower (Clerodendrum splendens) belongs to Verbenaceae (the Verbena family). It is a woody or semi-woody everegreen vine that is native to western Africa and central Africa. This vine climbs up adjacent plants by twining and can reach 3-4 m long. The leaves are ovate and arranged in opposite pairs. The bright scarlet flowers bloom in the cymes in winter. The calyx lobes turn in pale purple after flowering.
