アフリカの熱帯地域が原産です。別名で「カカリア」、「エメリア」あるいは「えふでぎく（絵筆菊）」とも呼ばれます。８月から１０月ごろ、高さ３０〜６０センチの茎の先に、オレンジ色または橙紅色の管状花が集まった小さな花を咲かせます。飾りひもの房のように見えることから、英名は房飾り（Tassel）の花。

キク科ウスベニニガナ属の一年草で、学名は Emilia sagittata (syn. Emilia coccinea)。英名は Tassel flower。

The Tassel flower (Emilia sagittata) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an annual herb that is native tropical Africa. The orange or orange-rose-pink, small, numerous tubular flowers bloom atop of a stem with a height of 30-60 cm from August to October. The common name comes from the fact that its flower looks like a tassel of a decorative string.
