ブラジル南部が原産です。温暖な高地に生え、高さは１５〜３０センチになります。冬の温暖な地域、たとえばわが国の南部やオーストラリアの東南部にも帰化しています。葉は三出複葉で、革質で淡緑色の倒心臓形の小葉がつきます。冬の終わりから晩春にかけて、すみれ色から赤紫色で縁が濃色の花を咲かせます。夏の終わりから秋には、短い休眠をします。

The Brazilian sorrel (Oxalis brasiliensis) belongs to Oxalidaceae (the Wood sorrel family). It is a perennial herb that is native to southern Brazil. This herb grows in the warm highlands and can reach 15-30 cm in height. It is also naturalized in mild winter areas, such as southern Japan and southeastern Australia. The leaves are 3-lobed compounds with leathery light green, obcordate leaflets. The violet-magenta flowers with darker edges bloom from late winte to late spring. It has a short dormancy from late summer to fall.
