マダガスカル島の東８００キロにあるレユニオン島に分布しています。単幹で、高さは３メートルほどになります。大きな緑白色の団扇状の葉を広げます。名前は、幼樹のときに葉や葉柄が赤色をしていることから。

ヤシ科ベニオウギヤシ属の常緑低木で、学名は Latania lontaroides。英名は Red latan palm。

|
The red latan palm (Latania lontaroides) belongs to Arecaceae (the Palm family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed to Reunion Island located 800 km east of Madagascar Island. This tree has a single trunk and its height is about 3 m. It spreads large greenish white fan-shaped leaves. The Japanese name is because the leaves and petioles are red in the young tree.
