The flamingo plant (Anthurium scherzerianum) belongs to Araceae (the Arum family). It is an evergreen herb that is native to Costa Rica. This herb grows in montane rainforest, and grow on trees (as an epiphyte) or on the ground (terrestrial). The leaves are oblong to elliptic, leathery, up to 25 cm long and 8 cm wide. Both sides of the leaf blade are dotted with minute dark glands. The spathe is scarlet to orange-red and broadly oval, 8-10 cm long. The spadix is orange-red, usually coiled upward and may be up to 8 cm long. The fruits are orange to red. The phots are a cultivar 'Rothschildianum'.
