べにしたん (紅紫檀)

中国が原産です。わが国へは昭和時代の初めに渡来しました。実生や挿し木で容易に殖やせるために、いまでは各地に広がっています。高さは１メートルほどになり、枝は横に広がります。小さな倒卵形の葉は互生します。５月から６月ごろ、葉腋に淡い紅色あるいは白色の花を咲かせます。果実は球形で、鮮紅色に熟します。 |

バラ科シャリントウ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Cotoneaster horizontalis。英名は Rockspray cotoneaster。 |

The rockspray cotoneaster (Cotoneaster horizontalis) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to China. This tree was introduced into Japan in the early Showa Era (about 70-80 years ago). This tree is cultivated widly because of easy to proliferate, such as rasing from seed or growing from cutting. It can reach about 1 m in height and spreads its branches sideways. The leaves are small obovate and alternate. The pale ponceau or white flowers bloom on the axils from May to June. The fruits are round berries and ripen bright red. |
