アメリカ、テキサス州の西部に分布しています。乾燥した岩礫地に生え、高さは３０〜７５センチになります。茎の基部は木質化します。葉は披針形から狭披針形で、灰色の毛に被われています。葉の縁には棘状の鋸歯があります。３月から５月ごろ、それにときおり１０月ごろ、花茎の先に淡青紫色から淡紫色の頭花を咲かせます。

キク科キシロリザ属の多年草で、学名は Xylorhiza wrightii。英名は Big Bend woody aster。

The Big Bend woody aster (Xylorhiza wrightii) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the western part of Texas, the Unites States. This herb grows on dry rocky gravel and can reach 30-75 cm in height. The base of the stem becomes woody. The leaves are lanceolate to narrow lanceolate and covered with gray hair. The edges of the leaves have spiny serrations. The pale bluish-purple to pale-purple flower heads bloom at the tips of the flower stalks from March to May, and occasionally around October.
