アメリカの南中部およびメキシコ北部に分布しています。山地帯に生え、高さは８メートルほどになります。葉は掌状に分裂し、裏面には軟毛があります。花は散形状または散房状につき、花弁はありません。花は２または３年ごとに咲きます。果実は、２個の翼がある非裂開性の翼果です。別名で「キャニオンメープル」とも呼ばれます。

カエデ科カエデ属の落葉低木で、学名は Acer grandidentatum var. sinuosum。英名は Bigtooth maple、Canyonmaple。

The bigtooth (Acer grandidentatum var. sinuosum) belongs to Aceraceae (the Maple family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed to the central-southern United States and northern Mexico. This tree grows in mountainous areas and can reach about 8 m in height. The leaves are palmately lobed, and pubescent beneath. The flowers are umbellate or corymbose and have no petals. They bloom every 2 or 3 years. The fruit is an indehiscent, and double-winged samara. It is also called "canyon maple".
