アメリカのテキサス州南部・東部からメキシコ北部にかけて分布しています。乾燥地帯の石灰岩の丘陵や峡谷に生え、高さは１．５〜４．５メートルになります。幹は薄灰色です。枝は硬くて棘があり、濃緑色の葉をつけます。葉は偶数羽状複葉で、楕円形の小葉が２〜４対つきます。３月から６月ごろ、葉腋に穂状花序をだし、甘く芳香のある白色から淡黄色の小さな花を咲かせます。果実は長さ６〜８センチほどの扁平な豆果です。

ネムノキ科アカシア属の落葉低木で、学名は Acacia rigidula。英名は Blackbrush acacia、Chaparro prieto。

The Blackbrush acacia (Acacia rigidula) belongs to Mimosaceae (the Mimosa family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed from southern and eastern Texas in the United States to northern Mexico. It grows on limestone hillsides and canyons in arid regions and grows 1.5 to 4.5 m tall. The trunk is light gray. The branches are stiff and spiny with dark green leaves. From March to June, spikelets of small, sweetly fragrant white to pale yellow flowers appear in the axils of the leaves. The fruit is a flattened pea pod 6 to 8 cm long.
