The Lance water fern (Blechnum chambersii) belongs to the Blechnaceae family. It is an evergreen perennial fern that is distributed from southeastern Australia to New Zealand, Samoa, and Fiji. It grows in coastal forests and reaches a height of 20 to 50 cm. It is a dimorphic fern with separate fertile and sterile leaves. The sterile fronds are pinnate, creeping to semi-erect, 12 to 70 cm long, and parted into deeply pinnate segments. The fertile fronds are typically somewhat shorter, 8-60 cm long, positioned centrally, and erect.
