北アメリカの西部、アラスカからカリフォルニアの南部まで分布しています。山地帯から高山帯に生え、高さは６０〜９０センチほどになります。乾燥には極めて耐性があります。葉は細い披針形で、地面から４５センチくらいのところまでついています。３月から９月ごろまで、長く伸びた枝先に淡い空色の花を咲かせ続けます。

アマ科アマ属の多年草で、学名は Linum lewisii。英名は Blue flax、Western blue flax。

The blue flax (Linum lewisii) belongs to Linaceae (the Flax family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Alaska to the south of California, in the west of North America. This herb grows from mountainous to alpine area, and the height is about 60-90 cm. It is extremely resistant to drying. The leaves are thin lanceolate and bear about 45 cm from the ground. The light blue flowers continue to bloom on the long branches from March to September.
