カナダからアメリカ北部から西部に分布しています。明るい林内や草原に生え、高さは１０センチほどになります。葉は卵形から心形で束生し、縁はきれいに波打ちます。長い葉柄があります。４月から８月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして青紫色の花を咲かせます。上部２個の花弁は反り返り、下部３個の花弁の基部は白色です。細めの距があります。

The Blue violet (Viola adunca) belongs to Violaceae (the Viola family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Canada to the northern to western United States. It grows in light woods and prairies and is about 10 cm tall. The leaves are ovate to cordate with wavy edges and long petioles, and grow in bunches. From April to August, the flower stalks grow and produce blue-purple flowers. The upper two petals are recurved, and the base of the lower three petals is white. There is a narrow spur.
