The Smallhead doll's daisy (Boltonia diffusa) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the southeastern to south-central parts of the United States. It grows in grasslands and along roadsides and grows to about 1.5 m tall. The stems are thin and well branched, with sparse linear leaves. In late summer, small flower heads, about 12 mm in diameter, bloom at the ends of the branches. The flowers seem to float in the air because there are almost no leaves attached.
