アメリカの東南部から中南部に分布しています。草原や道ばたなどに生え、高さは１．５メートルほどになります。茎は細くてよく分枝し、まばらに線形の葉がつきます。夏の終わりごろ、枝先に直径１２ミリほどの小さな頭花を咲かせます。葉がほとんどつかないため、花が空中に浮かんでいるようです。 |

キク科ボルトニア属の多年草で、学名は Boltonia diffusa。英名は Smallhead doll's daisy、False starwort、False aster。 |

The Smallhead doll's daisy (Boltonia diffusa) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the southeastern to south-central parts of the United States. It grows in grasslands and along roadsides and grows to about 1.5 m tall. The stems are thin and well branched, with sparse linear leaves. In late summer, small flower heads, about 12 mm in diameter, bloom at the ends of the branches. The flowers seem to float in the air because there are almost no leaves attached. |
