The Brachyglottis 'Sunshine' belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an evergreen shrub that is a member of the Dunedin hybrids, a group of hybrids produced in the Dunedin Botanic Gardens in New Zealand by crossing Brachyglottis compacta, Brachyglottis greyi, and Brachyglottis laxifolia, all of which are native to New Zealand and Australia. It is 1 to 1.5 m tall, but is cold- and salt-tolerant, and is used as a groundcover in windswept areas near the coast. The leaves are ovate and entire, covered with white hairs that turn dark green over time, and the yellow flower-heads appear in June to July in racemes at the ends of the branches.
