南アメリカの北部に分布しています。地生種で、長い剣状の葉を伸ばし、棘状の鋸歯があります。生垣に植栽されたり、果肉は生食できるようです。また果実が抗壊血病の効果があるという記述もあります。

パイナップル科ブロメリア属の常緑多年草で、学名は Bromelia nidus-puellae。英名はありません。

The Bromelia nidus-puellae belongs to Bromeliaceae (the Pineapple family). It is an evergreen perennial that is distributed in the northern part of South America. It is a terrestrial species with long sword-shaped leaves with spiny serrations. It is planted in hedgerows and its pulp can be eaten raw. There are also reports that the fruits have anti-scurvy properties.
