アフリカ南部のナミビアに分布しています。暑くて乾燥した地域に生え、高さは２メートルほどになります。成長は遅く、塊茎は円錐形から円筒形に肥大化します。茎の表面は、皮が剥離して白くなりますが、これが夏の直射日光を反射して温度が上がるのを防いでいます。葉は大きな卵形で光沢があり、冬季には落葉します。夏に花序をだし、目立たない花を咲かせます。果実は「ふどう（葡萄）」に似た房で、鮮やかなワインレッドに熟します。 |

The Wild grape (Cyphostemma juttae) belongs to Vitaceae (the Grape family). It is an evergreen herb that is distributed in Namibia in southern Africa. It grows in hot, dry areas and can grow up to 2 m tall. Growth is slow and the tuber enlarges from conical to cylindrical. The surface of the stem is white with peeling bark, which reflects direct summer sunlight and prevents temperatures from rising. The leaves are large, ovate, and glossy, and are deciduous in winter. Inflorescences appear in summer and produce inconspicuous flowers. The berries ripen to a bright wine red in bunches similar to grapes. |
