The Fritillaria-like bulbophyllum (Bulbophyllum fritillariflorum) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen herb that is native to the island of New Guinea. It grows in mats on the lateral branches of trees in tropical rainforests. The bulbs are ovate and interconnected, with a single leathery, thick, oblong leaf. Several times a year, the long flower stalks grow to produce pale yellow-green flowers with purple-brown spots. The species name is based on the shape of the flower, which resembles a fritillaria.
