ぶんたん (文旦) [Index] [Back] 東南アジアが原産です。台湾や中国南部では帰化あるいは栽培されています。わが国へは江戸時代の初めに渡来しました。高さは３メートルほどになります。果実は淡緑色から黄色で、独特の甘みと風味のある果肉と、非常に厚くてスポンジ状の果皮が特徴です。また果実が柑橘類では最も大きく、０．５〜２キログラムになります。果実の収穫は、年末ごろに行われますが、酸味が強いので数ヶ月の追熟をしたあと出荷されます。別名で「ざぼん（朱欒）」とも呼ばれます。台湾華語では「柚」、中国語では「柚（you）」です。 写真中５と中１３・下の品種は「レッドシャドック（Red Shaddock）」、 中１０は「ゴリアテ（Goliath）」、 中１１・中１２は「ピンクセンセーション（Pink Sensation）」。 ミカン科ミカン属の常緑低木で、学名は Citrus grandis (syn. Citrus maxima)。英名は Pomelo。 The Pomelo (Citrus grandis) belongs to Rutaceae (the Citrus family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to Southeast Asia. It has been naturalized or cultivated in Taiwan and southern China. It was introduced into Japan in early Edo Era (1603-1868). This tree can reach about 3 m in height. The fruits are pale green to yellow when ripe, with distinctive sweet flavored flesh and very thick spongy rind. They are the largest citrus fruit and usually weighing between 0.5-2 kg. They are harvested in late December. The fruits have strong acid tastes and need to force-riped for several months. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "柚", and "柚" (you) in Chinese.
