ぶらしのき (ブラシの木)

オーストラリアが原産です。わが国へは明治時代の中頃に渡来しました。５月から６月ごろ、枝先に長さ５〜１０センチの穂状の花序をつけます。真っ赤なブラシのように見えるのは、雄しべと雌しべです。初夏と同じような気候になる秋にも花を咲かせます。別名で「きんぽうじゅ(錦宝樹)」とも呼ばれます。 |

フトモモ科ブラシノキ属の常緑低木で、学名は Callistemon speciosus。英名は Scarlet bottlebrush。 |

The Scarlet bottlebrush (Callistemon speciosus) belongs to Myrtaceae (the Myrtle family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to Australia. This tree was introduced into Japan in the middel days of Meiji Era (1868-1912). The terminal spikes are 5-10 cm long and borne in May to June. The brushes are bright red, many stamens and pistils. The flowers also come in early fall. |
