メキシコ北部のバハカリフォルニア州が原産です。成長が早く、高さが12メートル、直径1メートルにもなります。7〜10個の稜があり、幼株では強い棘がありますが、成長すると棘が消えます。夏の夜に白色の花を咲かせます。

サボテン科パキケレウス属の柱状サボテンで、学名は Pachycereus pringlei。英名は Elephant cactus、Mexican giant cactus。

The Elephant cactus (Pachycereus pringlei) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a treelike cuctus that is native to Baja California in northern Mexico. This cactus grows fast and measures 12 m in height and 1 m across. It has 7 to 10 ridges, and strong spines in young, but the thorns disappear when growing. The white flowers bloom on summer nights.
