The bushy bluestem (Andropogon glomeratus) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the eastern and southern United States, Mexico to Central America and the West Indies. This herb grows in moist or semi-moist soils in full sun, and up to a height of 60-150 cm. The leaves are linear, over 1 m in length, green or blue-green, and turn copper in winter. The large, fluffy cream-colored inflorescences are borne from August to November. Each dense, tufted inflorescence has several pairs of hairy spikelets.
