ブラジル南部からパラグアイ、ウルグアイが原産です。果樹として栽培されますが、刈り込まないと高さは４．５メートルほどになります。葉は卵形で厚く、対生します。６月から８月ごろ、赤褐色の花を咲かせます。鮮紅色の雄しべが目立ちます。果実はパイナップルに似た芳香があり、生食やジャムに加工されます。

フトモモ科フェイジョア属の常緑低木で、学名は Feijoa sellowiana。英名は Feijoa、Pineapple guava。

The feijoa (Feijoa sellowiana) belongs to Myrtaceae (the Myrtle family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to southern Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. This is cultivated as a fruit tree. It can reach 4.5 m in height if it does not cut back. The leaves are ovate, thick and arranged in opposite. The reddish brown flowers bloom from June to August. They have obvious bright rose pink stamens. The fruits have pineapple-like scent and used in raw diet or processed to jam.
