The Alamos barrel cactus (Ferocactus alamosanus) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a barrel cactus that is distributed across northwestern to southwestern Mexico. It grows in dry deciduous forests and oak groves at elevations of 450 to 1300 m, reaching a height of 1 m and a diameter of 30 cm. The stem has 12 to 20 ridges. It has a single central spine about 6 cm long, as well as eight marginal spines, each 3 to 4 cm long. It blooms with yellow-green flowers from March to April. The flowers are about 3.5 cm in diameter. The fruit is ovate and turns yellow when ripe. The specific epithet is derived from Alamos, Sonora, where this plant was discovered.
