The Ficus pyriformis belongs to Moraceae (the Mulberry family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed from the Assam region of India to southeastern China and the Indochinese Peninsula. It mainly grows in humid tropical biomes and is 1 to 2 m tall. The leaves are oblanceolate to obovate-lanceolate, 4 to 11 cm long and 2 to 4 cm wide, papery in texture, and entire along the edges. The underside of the leaves is sparsely covered in wooly hair. It is dioecious. It produces flowers (syconia) in leaf axils on leafy branches almost year-round. In Chinese, it is called "舶梨榕" (bo li rong).
