The Ficus wassa belongs to Moraceae (the Mulberry family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed from the Lesser Sunda Islands to New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. It grows in humid tropical biomes and is 5 to 8 m tall. The leaves are elliptic, entire, and have a long petiole with a caudate tip. The leaves are also glossy and wavy. The fruit is a cystocarp, 12 to 16 mm in diameter, and is eaten by the local people.
