The fly honeysuckle (Lonicera xylosteum) belongs to Caprifoliaceae (the Honeysuckle family). It is a deciduous shrub that is native to Europe. This shrub grows in woods and scrubs, generally on limestone and to 1800 m elevation. The leaves are almost round or ovate, gray-green, opposite, and hairy above and beneath. The flowers are yellowish-white, two-lipped, arranged in pairs and bloom from May to June. The fruits are berries and ripen in bright red.
