メキシコの北部、バハカリフォルニア州南部やソナラ州南部の海岸地帯、シナロア州の海岸地帯に分布しています。基部でよく分枝し、高さは2メートルほどになります。茎には鋭い棘があります。樹皮は灰白色から黄色がかった灰色をしています。夏に、小さな赤色の筒状花を咲かせます。 
フォウクィエリア科フォウクィエリア属の常緑小低木で、学名は Fouquieria diguetii。英名は Palo Adan、Adam's tree。 
The Palo Adan (Fouquieria diguetii) belongs to the family Fouquieriaceae. It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed in the northern part of Mexico, in the coastal areas of southern Baja California and Sonara, and in the coastal areas of Sinaloa. It is well branched at the base and grows to about 2 m tall. The stem has sharp spines. The bark is grayish-white to yellowish-gray. Small red tubular flowers bloom in summer.
