	ヨーロッパの温帯地域が原産です。わが国では江戸時代末期に観賞用として渡来し、今では北海道や本州北部に帰化しています。丘陵から山地帯、亜高山帯までの道ばたや荒れ地に生え、高さは３０～５０センチになります。茎は基部で分枝して粗毛が生えます。根生葉は倒卵形から倒披針形で長い柄があり、上部の茎葉は柄がなく茎を抱きます。６月から７月ごろ、枝先に直径５センチほどの白色の花を咲かせます。
	キク科フランスギク属の多年草で、学名は Leucanthemum vulgare。英名は Oxeye daisy。
	The Oxeye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the temperate areas of Europe. This herb was introduced into Japan as an ornamental plant in the last days of Edo era (about 150 years ago), and nowadays it is naturalized in Hokkaido and northern Honshu. It grows in lowland to subalpine roadsides and wastelands, and it can reach 30-50 cm in height. The stems are branched at the bases and grows sparse hairs. The basal leaves are obovate to oblanceolate with long petioles and the cauline leaves are sessile and enfold stems. The white flower-heads about 5 cm across come in June to July.
