アメリカのカリフォルニア州からアリゾナ州中部それにメキシコのバハカリフォルニアの北部に分布しています。高さは２〜９メートルほどになります。葉は長さ５〜１０センチで、ふつう３裂します。また葉は薄くフランネルのような質で、裏面には綿毛が密生します。晩春から秋まで、枝先に黄色い花を咲かせます。５個の花弁のように見えるのは萼片です。

アオギリ科フレモントデンデロン属の常緑低木で、学名は Fremontodendron californicum。英名は California flannel bush。

The California flannel bush (Fremontodendron californicum) belongs to the family Sterculiaceae. It is a tall evergreen tree that is distributed from California to central Arizona in the United States and northern Baja California in Mexico. It grows to a height of 2-9 m. The leaves are 5-10 cm long and usually three lobed. The leaves are also thin and flannel-like, with a dense coat of hairs on the underside. Yellow flowers bloom at the ends of the branches from late spring to fall. The five petal-like flowers are sepals.
