The Maiden's blush fuchsia (Fuchsia magellanica var. molinae) belongs to Onagraceae (the Evening primrose family). It is a small semi-evergreen tree that is distributed from Chile to Argentina in South America. It grows in humid, relatively cool climates and reaches a height of about 3 m. It branches profusely, forming a shrub-like habit. The leaves are small, lanceolate, and opposite. From summer until the first frost, it blooms with pale pink flowers that hang downward from the branch tips. The corolla has 4 to 8 outward-facing sepals. The buds are pink, but as the sepals open, they fade to white. The varietal name honors Juan Ignacio Molina (1740-1829), a Chilean botanist and author.
