The Variegated elaeagnus (Elaeagnus pungens cv. Variegata) belongs to Elaeagnaceae (the Oleaster family). It is an evergreen small tree that is a garden variety of "Spotted elaeagnus", which is distributed from the Chubu region of Honshu westward to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and China. It has oblong leaves with yellowish-white spots and is evergreen, so it is used for hedges and other purposes. It produces pale yellowish-white flowers in the axils of its leaves around October.
