わが国の北海道から本州・四国、それに東アジアや北アメリカ北西部に分布しています。亜高山帯の針葉樹林内に生え、マット状に群生します。高さは５〜８センチになります。地下茎で広がり、直立した茎の上部に２〜３回羽状に枝をだし、樹状になります。

コウヤノマンネングサ科フジノマンネングサ属の蘚類で、学名は Pleuroziopsis ruthenica。英名は Pleuroziopsis moss。

The Pleuroziopsis moss (Pleuroziopsis ruthenica) belongs to the family Climaciaceae. It is a bryophyte that is distributed from Hokkaido to Honshu and Shikoku in Japan, as well as in East Asia and Northwestern North America. It grows in subalpine coniferous forests in mat-like clumps. It grows 5 to 8 cm tall. It spreads by underground stems and produces two or three pinnate branches at the top of its upright stem, forming a tree.
